In anticipation of seeing The Kooks tomorrow I think its apt to share a Kooks song. The Kooks have been playing in the studio on repeat this last week. 

                               

What's playing in the studio

I have decided to start a new blog series called What's Playing in the Studio. I love music and I always have something on while I work so I thought I would share some of the music I listen to. My music taste varies a lot, as you will see over the next few weeks but hopefully you will also enjoy what I am listening to. Feel free to comment and let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions of bands I should check out.
 So for the first music post...

I just downloaded the new Vampire Weekend single called Diane Young. Its been on the radio quite a bit recently. I love Vampire Weekend and can't wait for there new album.

Ramfest 2013

Forgot to post some pictures from Ramfest. I only decided to go two days before and it was a great decision. Had no expectations and it was a really great music festival. Well organied, great music, nice campsite...I was impressed. Will be back next year.

Holi One

I braved the Saturday morning shoppers and went off to Pep in search of a white T-shirt. Good thing I only paid R26 for it because its now been put in charity pile after being caked in a rainbow of powder paint which then turned a funny shade of brown towards the end of the evening. Holi One was madness! It didn't have the best music line-up but that didn't really matter, I don't think anyone was their for the music. 

Everyone was there to have fun, throw paint around and act like a kid.

RHCP

On Tuesday I went to the Red Hot Chili Peppers Concert. I can't remember when I bought their  Californication album but I must have been when I was in grade 7 or 8 and they have been one band I have been dying to see play live since then. After hours of trying to get golden circle tickets when they went on sale last year I only managed to get general standing which meant I couldn't see much (as you can see from the pictures) but it was still one amazing concert. I still can't believe I saw them live, now I wish I could go back to Tuesday night.

Up the Creek 2013

On Friday afternoon three us packed ourselves and all our camping gear into a car and headed off to Up the Creek. It was my third time going and I think its one of South Africa's best music festivals. This years music hilights where Machineri, BEAST, Goodnight Wembley, Peachy Keen, December Streets, Desmond & the Tutus and Taxi Violence. 

Now I'm beak that I have to wait a year for the next UTC. 

Rocking the Daisies 2012

This past weekend I went to my 6th Rocking the Daisies. The actual festival wasn't as well organised as previous years but I had a great time, I guess you can have a great time anywhere if you are partying with great friends. I took hardly any pictures and as you have noticed I never post pictures of my friends and I so here are some of what I took this weekend. 

Oppikoppi 2012

I spent last week on a little work trip to Joberg (more about that in another post) which gave me the perfect excuse to trek up to Oppikoppi on Thursday...Ok well Oppi was planned long before the work trip. I left super early on Thursday morning and met up with friends who had arrived on Wednesday evening to stake out a good camping spot. They tried to get the same camping spot as last year but we landed up camping in what looked like a world war 1 battlefield. 

Some of my music highlights were Jeremy Loops, Black Cat Bones, 340ml, Kongos, and Southern Gypsey Queen. I also really enjoyed the Enter Shikari set even though I usually don't like there kind of music. Most night ended at the The Red Bull stage was really fun, its a miracle I didn't bail down the hill. I missed a few bands I wanted to see but there is just so much going on its impossible to see everyone. 

By the end of the weekend my feet where killing me, I had lost my voice, lost my camera (for an hour and some kind person handed it in), lost my torch, froze my butt off, turned a few shades darker and lost my friends about a hundred times but its all part of the Oppi experience and I can guarantee I will be back next year.

Two Door Cinema Clun

On Saturday I went to the (free! yes it was free) 5 Gum Experience. Two Door Cinema Club were the headline act. They were excellent, the support acts were all excellent but the venue, wow the venue blew my mind. It was at an abandond cement factory in Philippi, just outside the airport in Cape Town.

It did make me sad that it was a bunch of privilaged South Africans partying in the middle of one of the countris poorest arias. That wasnt cool at all, but the venue was perfect for the concert.
